Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how GamingDrift handles information when you use the GamingDrift website, web app, or mobile application.
Information GamingDrift collects
- Account information: using GamingDrift requires an account. GamingDrift stores your email address, a hashed password, an email-verification status, and the first and last name you choose to provide.
- Source subscriptions and preferences: the sources you subscribe to, the signals you save, and the topics you hide are stored with your account so they apply across the web app and the mobile app.
- Reading activity: when you open, save, mark read, or dismiss an article, GamingDrift records that action against your account, together with the article it refers to and a timestamp. This is what keeps your reading state consistent across devices.
- Outbound link events: when you follow a story link out of GamingDrift, the service records which article was opened, the destination host, and which surface you opened it from. This is used to understand which sources are useful and to keep attribution accurate.
- Email settings: whether you have enabled the daily digest, and the unsubscribe state tied to your account.
- Browser-local data: the web app also keeps your theme choice and a local copy of interface state in your browser's local storage. Clearing site data removes it. The mobile app keeps equivalent settings on the device.
- Server logs: the service receives ordinary HTTP request information, such as an IP address, timestamp, requested path, user agent, and response status, for security, reliability, and operations.
- Source content: GamingDrift collects and displays public gaming stories and evidence from third-party sources. It retains source URLs, titles, excerpts, author references, timestamps, and source metadata. This is content about publications, not about you.
How information is used
GamingDrift uses this information to authenticate you, operate the service, retrieve and rank source material, display evidence, keep your reading state and subscriptions in sync, send the email you have asked for, diagnose errors, protect the service, and improve reliability. GamingDrift does not sell personal information and does not use your reading activity to build advertising profiles.
Service providers
- Hosting: the service runs on a dedicated virtual server operated by a commercial hosting provider, behind a content-delivery and TLS proxy.
- Email: transactional email (verification codes, password resets, and the optional daily digest) is sent through Resend. Resend receives the recipient address and message content.
- Analytics: GamingDrift uses a self-hosted Plausible Analytics instance operated by the same operator. It is first-party, does not set advertising cookies, and does not track you across other websites. It records aggregate page and event counts.
- AI advisory processing: GamingDrift sends public article titles, short excerpts, and source URLs to an internal advisory service to help group and label topics. No account information, email address, or reading activity is sent to it. Its output is advisory only and never determines what is published.
Third-party sources and links
GamingDrift links to third-party websites and may display excerpts or metadata from them. Those services have their own privacy policies and terms. GamingDrift is not responsible for their practices. Source-specific collection, retention, attribution, and display restrictions remain applicable.
Sharing
GamingDrift does not sell personal information. Information may be disclosed to the infrastructure and service providers listed above, when needed to comply with law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of GamingDrift and its users.
Retention and deletion
Account information, subscriptions, preferences, and reading activity are retained while your account is open. You can delete your account and the data tied to it from inside the app, under Manage account, or follow the account deletion instructions to use the web app or request deletion if you cannot sign in. Browser-local data can be removed by clearing the site's storage. Server logs and collected source material may be retained as needed for operations, security, reproducibility, and source-history purposes. If you need help with a deletion request, contact [email protected].
U.S. privacy rights
Depending on where you live and whether applicable thresholds are met, state privacy laws may provide rights to know, access, correct, delete, or opt out of certain sharing. Requests should be sent to the contact below. GamingDrift will verify requests as reasonably necessary to protect user information.
Children
GamingDrift is not directed to children under 13, and GamingDrift does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact the operator so it can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.
Security
Passwords are stored hashed, sessions use signed HTTP-only cookies, and traffic is served over TLS. GamingDrift uses reasonable measures appropriate to the service and the information it handles. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the service or its data practices change. The updated date above will change when revisions are posted.
